It’s the question everyone is asking as we eagerly wait for lockdown restrictions to lift… so just when can we go camping in our motorhomes again? Last month the Prime Minister announced a roadmap back to a more normal life so here’s all the information motorhome owners need to know about dates for hitting the open road.
April 12th is when self-catering accommodation can officially reopen, including self-contained campsites and caravan parks! With this in mind, plan your route accordingly and be aware that communal areas such as shower blocks and toilets will not be open. This means you will need to have access to your own camp toilet and washing facilities.
Most of our motorhomes for sale including Swifts and Burstners have these built in facilities such as electric flush toilets and washrooms, making them fully equipped for the road ahead into a more careful campers lifestyle. Some of them are even complete with ovens, grills, cooking hobs and microwaves, meaning you will also be able to tick ‘self-catering’ off the travel requirements for April!
With some self-catering campsites already fully booked for this summertime be sure to plan your trip sooner rather than later to avoid disappointment! Many campsites and accommodations will be raising prices as a result of the high travel demand, so perhaps choose somewhere that requires only a small deposit to be on the safe side.
Foreign travel is much less certain than the other stages of the government roadmap out of lockdown, but it has been said that 17th May could be the earliest that overseas holidays resume. However, if there is one place out of all the European countries to keep an eye on first it is France, the obvious choice for motorhome owners. It’s just one trip over the channel meaning you won’t have to travel too far, plus it has stunning countryside to explore.
